Talking tariffs with Kathleen Thomas, an economic professor at Mississippi State University

Published

on

www.youtube.com – WTVA 9 News – 2025-02-03 13:19:48

SUMMARY: Tariffs, essentially taxes on imported goods, can lead to increased prices for consumers on items from Canada and Mexico, affecting everything from grocery bills to gas prices. Products like avocados, beer, and oil are heavily imported, and potential tariffs could inflate costs quickly. While tariffs aim to address trade imbalances, they often result in retaliatory measures from affected countries, exacerbating a trade war that ultimately harms consumers. Economists warn that prolonged tariffs may lead to inflation and lower economic growth by stifling innovation and disrupting supply chains, especially for industries reliant on global imports.
