NAMI chapter talks a walk for mental illness awareness
SUMMARY: St. John began around 45 years ago as a dinner for church members and is now the Pine Belt affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. The organization hosted an annual community event called NAMI Walks Pine Belt at Kamper Park with about 80 participants. NAMI’s mission is to improve the lives of people with mental illness and raise awareness. The organization was founded in 1979 and the NAMI Walks event is their only annual fundraiser. It is held on the National Day of Hope and is one of many walks happening around the country today.
