NAACP: Deputies show up to listening session

SUMMARY: At a recent listening hosted by the Rankin County NAACP at Mount Carmel Ministries, individuals were encouraged to share their experiences with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department. However, the presence of unannounced attorneys from the sheriff’s department created an intimidating , preventing speakers from sharing their stories. Angela English, president of the NAACP, noted that this intimidation led them to reconsider their approach. This follows the fallout from the “Goon Squad” case where five former deputies were implicated in the torture of two Black . Community members are urged to document and share their experiences.

In what was supposed to be a listening session between the Department of Justice and potential victims of unfair treatment from the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department took a different turn.

City, county leaders apply for grants to replace Glendale Ave bridges
