Myrtle Beach tourism adapts to national trends & aims for year round appeal
SUMMARY: Tourism is crucial for the Grand Strand’s economy, but this summer’s season was slower than usual. Hotel occupancy rates increased by 2% from last year, while short-term rentals dropped by 7%. Concerns arise from national trends, including decreased restaurant spending and increased grocery purchases, prompting the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce to revise marketing strategies. High and mid-scale hotels performed better than economy hotels. With many budget travelers planning trips in the coming months, there are hopes for an active fall season. The chamber aims to make Myrtle Beach a year-round destination, supported by a growing accommodation tax.
Tourism is a vital part of the economy along the Grand Strand.
Some businesses have been telling ABC15 that all summer the season was slower than normal.
ABC15 sat down with the CEO and Chief Marketing Officer for the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce to talk about tourism numbers and the trends they are seeing.

Trump will issue executive orders to remake immigration policies; legal, logistical questions remain
SUMMARY: President-elect Donald Trump plans to implement significant changes to U.S. immigration policies, including ending asylum access, sending troops to the southern border, and attempting to eliminate birthright citizenship. Although these executive orders will be announced soon, their execution remains uncertain, particularly regarding legal challenges to end automatic citizenship for anyone born in the U.S. Trump also intends to suspend refugee resettlement for four months, halt “catch-and-release” practices, and revive the “Remain in Mexico” policy. The administration aims to complete border wall construction, though specifics on troop deployment and funding remain unclear amid rising concerns from immigrant communities.

Back where it turned, Biden’s final 24 hours begin in South Carolina | South Carolina
SUMMARY: Joe Biden returned to South Carolina on Sunday for his farewell as President, marking the state that catalyzed his 2020 campaign. Joined by wife Jill and Rep. James Clyburn, he visited the Royal Missionary Baptist Church and the International African American Museum, expressing gratitude to the congregation. In the 2020 primaries, Biden initially struggled but later won decisively in South Carolina, revitalizing his campaign.
