Myrtle Beach couple awaits updates from family in the path of Helene
SUMMARY: Hurricane Helen has struck the Carolinas, becoming one of the deadliest hurricanes in the past 50 years, with a death toll rising to 128, including 36 in North Carolina and 29 in South Carolina. Hundreds of roads remain blocked, leaving many stranded in their homes. In Myrtle Beach, the Quinns anxiously await news from their daughter and granddaughters in Barnardsville, North Carolina, after receiving a cryptic text indicating they are safe but without water or electricity. The couple plans to travel to help as soon as it is safe. Resources to assist affected areas are available online.
A Myrtle Beach couple is waiting anxiously for more contact from family in Western North Carolina.
Laurie Quinn and her husband Tim Quinn sat on the porch of their Myrtle Beach home waiting for contact and answers from their only daughter and granddaughters. They spoke to them on the phone Thursday, as Helene drew closer.

Scott requests end to rulemaking activity, withdrawal of candidates | South Carolina
SUMMARY: South Carolina Republican Senator Tim Scott has urged the Biden administration to halt new rulemaking and withdraw pending nominations for federal housing and financial agencies. As the incoming chair of the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs and the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Scott emphasized the need to align with the mandate voters delivered against the administration’s economic agenda. He expressed concerns over the qualifications of nominees like Christy Goldsmith Romero and Caroline Crenshaw, warning that their confirmation could hinder bipartisan collaboration. Scott stressed the importance of reducing federal regulations that contribute to rising housing costs and inflation.
