MSMS teacher uses AI to enhance science lessons
SUMMARY: At the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science, Dr. Jason Palagi utilizes Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ChatGPT in his biology classes. By integrating AI, students can simplify complex mathematical modeling in ecology through computer programs, specifically using a tool called “Mathematica.” ChatGPT assists students in generating code for Mathematica, fostering critical thinking as they interpret AI-generated results. Dr. Palagi argues that while AI helps produce basic answers, students must still engage in critical thinking to develop unique and relevant solutions. He will discuss this approach at the National Consortium of Secondary STEM Schools in November.
