MSDH offering one-stop shop event for back-to-school forms
SUMMARY: The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) is hosting a two-week event from July 24 to August 4 at the MSDH Office of Vital Records in Ridgeland to help parents obtain required school entry forms. During this event, parents can get a free copy of their child’s Form 121 (immunization record) and purchase a birth certificate for $17. Both documents are necessary for school entry in Mississippi. State law mandates immunizations for children entering schools, Head Start, or daycare, including specific requirements for 7th-grade entry. More information is available on the MSDH website.

U.S. House passes bill to fund federal agencies through September, now heads to Senate
SUMMARY: The House passed a funding measure to prevent a partial government shutdown, with a narrow 217-213 vote. Only one Republican and one Democrat opposed the bill. The Senate requires at least eight Democratic votes to advance the legislation, which faces criticism for granting broad spending discretion to the Trump administration. Some Democrats fear it could redirect funds away from initiatives like combating fentanyl. Despite bipartisan concerns, GOP leaders emphasize the need for consistent funding rather than short-term extensions. An alternative bill from Democrats could fund the government through April if necessary. The proposal may also impact funding for the District of Columbia.
