SUMMARY: Seven Mississippians began the new year with a new lease on life, thanks to the generosity of strangers who volunteered to donate a kidney to someone they had never met. This resulted in a seven-way kidney swap, the largest in the state of Mississippi. One recipient, a high school football coach who had been battling kidney disease for a decade, received a kidney from a donor who was a perfect match and also matched another Mississippian in need of a kidney. A team of surgeons at UMC performed 14 surgeries on donors and recipients, and everyone is doing well. This highlights the significant need for kidney donors in Mississippi.
