Mother, acquaintance charged in brutal death of one-year-old
SUMMARY: Police are investigating a case of felony child abuse in which a child was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead. The child’s mother and her acquaintance, identified as Coleman, are currently facing charges, but the chief anticipates that these will be upgraded to capital murder pending the coroner’s report. The chief expressed concern over the amount of trauma and bruising on the child’s body. Coleman, who had custody of the child, brought the child to the attention of a neighbor but then left. The chief described his actions as “cowardice” and urged anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact the police. Two suspects have also been identified in a separate homicide case.
The mother, Yolanda Hunter, and acquaintance Herman Coleman will both be charged with felony child abuse. Wade expects capital murder to replace the current charges pending further investigation and a completed autopsy report of the child. Hunter will soon be taken into custody but Coleman is still at large. This is a developing story.

Truck gets stuck under an overpass
SUMMARY: A truck became stuck under a bridge on I-20 westbound near Ellis Avenue around 2 PM, blocking the left lane for about two hours. MDOT crews have freed the trailer and are now inspecting the bridge for damage. The 18-wheeler was carrying an oversized load, causing it to hit the bridge at an angle, almost in an L shape. Traffic is slowly resuming, but MDOT estimates clearance within the next hour. Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid delays in the area.
