Moss Point middle school launches program to teach students about protecting their environment
SUMMARY: Moss Point Magnolia Middle School has partnered with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to teach students about environmental protection, starting with watersheds. Derek Duckworth, an advocate for reducing water pollution, is guiding sixth graders through the “Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience” program. The focus is on conservation, stormwater runoff, and the protection of local bodies of water, like the nearby Bayou. Students are learning how clean water connects to the Gulf of Mexico and eventually becomes drinking water. The program aims to instill a sense of responsibility, empowering students to impact their community and the environment.

The initiative focuses on protecting Rhodes Bayou, which is behind the school.
