Mosquitoes are summertime nuisance and can transmit diseases
SUMMARY: With summer’s arrival, mosquitoes become a common concern, not just for their bites but for the diseases they spread, such as the West Nile Virus. Dr. Jerome Goddard from Mississippi State University, an expert in insect-related diseases, highlights that only some of the 60 mosquito species in Mississippi pose threats to humans. To avoid bites, wearing long sleeves and using DEET-based repellents are recommended. Herbal repellents are also effective but for shorter durations. Residents, like one in Tupelo, emphasize using bug spray to prevent mosquito bites. These precautions become crucial for enjoying outdoor activities safely.
