Overnight, conditions will calm, but rain chances will increase midweek with moisture coming from a developing tropical system in the Gulf. One lane of I-40 in North Carolina to reopen on New Year's Day

Helene washed away parts of the eastbound lanes into the Pigeon River Gorge and crews are working to stabilize the westbound lanes to open them to traffic.
