PM Weather (10/18): Temps will continue to warm through the weekend under abundant sunshine!
SUMMARY: This weekend promises beautiful weather with temperatures reaching the low 70s, although it starts off chilly at around 40 degrees. Currently, there’s a significant rainfall deficit, with only traces recorded this October, potentially making it the driest on record. High pressure is maintaining these dry, warm conditions, though a cold front may arrive later next week. The tropics are being monitored, particularly a potential tropical cyclone near Mexico and another system north of Puerto Rico. Temperatures will gradually warm into the mid to upper 70s next week, so enjoy the pleasant outdoor weather!
While high pressure is in control, sunshine will be plentiful through the middle of next week. Conditions will also remain very dry.

Fort Negley to undergo $12 million renovation
SUMMARY: Fort Negley is set for a $12 million transformation to enhance its recreational space while honoring its Civil War history. Built by the Union, it stands as the largest inland stone fort in the U.S., yet remains largely unknown to many locals. Cirel Stewart, president of Friends of Fort Negley, emphasizes the project‘s importance for education and community engagement. The plan includes upgrading walking trails, creating native grasslands, and preserving historical elements that reflect the fort’s dark past, including its connection to enslaved individuals. Construction starts next year, lasting about 18 months, with hopes of raising an additional $10-15 million for future phases.
The renovation will help make the Civil War-era fort a recreational area as well as a historic site.

Winter weather outlook for Middle Tennessee
SUMMARY: Meteorologist Davis Nolan discusses this winter’s weather forecast, indicating a likelihood of above-normal temperatures (33-40% chance) for December, January, and February in Atlanta, due to an expected weak El Niรฑo. Precipitation predictions show equal chances of above or below normal. Typically, weak El Niรฑo conditions result in warmer winters with some cold periods but less confidence in specific weather events. Matt Reagan from the National Weather Service noted that a weak El Niรฑo may lead to an earlier and potentially stronger severe weather season from January to March, adding uncertainty to the overall forecast.
Davis Nolan spoke with a National Weather Service meteorologist about how La Niรฑa will affect winter.
