More than $10 million going to Mississippi school districts for 30 ‘clean’ buses
SUMMARY: Three Mississippi school districts will receive over $10 million from President Biden's Investing in America agenda to purchase 30 eco-friendly school buses. First Student, Inc. will get $7.98 million for 23 buses in Gulfport, Navistar, Inc. will receive $2.07 million for six buses in Leake County, and $345,000 for one bus in Picayune. The zero-emission buses aim to replace old diesel versions linked to health issues, improve air quality, and cut costs. EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan highlighted the program's benefits, including boosting U.S. manufacturing. Applications for the 2024 Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Grant Program are open until July 25.

Mississippi wildlife commission unanimously passes resolution honoring former chairman
SUMMARY: Bill Cossar, a former Mississippi Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks commissioner, has been honored for his extensive service in conserving the state's natural resources. The commission unanimously passed a resolution in mid-June recognizing his lifelong dedication to public service and outdoor stewardship. Cossar, from Charleston, has been active in community service and various outdoor activities. After graduating from Ole Miss, he had a successful career with Mississippi Power and Light, becoming its vice president. Appointed to the commission by Governor Phil Bryant in 2014 and reappointed in 2019, Cossar served for 10 years, including two years as chairman.

Longtime Mississippi Museum of Natural Science director retiring after 31 years

Number of EV charging stations increasing in Mississippi with latest unveiled in Brandon
SUMMARY: Charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs) are increasingly appearing in Mississippi, recently including a $350,000 fast charging station in downtown Brandon funded by Entergy Mississippi. Positioned near Interstates 20 and 55, it benefits local and passing EV drivers. This station, alongside one in Ridgeland, aids Entergy Mississippi's research on EV impact on the power grid. With 3,300 EVs in Mississippi, Entergy is gathering data for future infrastructure planning, expecting 26 million EVs in the US by 2030. The Brandon station has two fast chargers that can power an EV in 30-45 minutes at $0.30/kWh. Many cities statewide now have EV charging stations.
