Monroe County sheriff calls for tougher sentences on drug dealers

SUMMARY: The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) hosted an open house to discuss proposed transmission system improvements in the Golden Triangle area. Shane Beasley, TVA’s transmission siting manager, announced plans for an 18-mile power line from Clay to Artesia, aimed at enhancing transmission capacity and reliability to support the region’s residential and commercial growth. The event allowed community members to interact with decision-makers and express concerns about the project, including easement payments and structure designs. TVA is currently gathering input, with a preferred route decision expected in Spring 2025 and an anticipated service start date in 2028.
TVA held an open house at the Civic in West Point to hear the community’s thoughts and concerns about their proposed transmission system improvements project.

Forrest County newly-elected Justice Court judge sworn in Thursday
SUMMARY: Grant Bennett was sworn in as the newly elected District One Justice Court Judge after winning over 60% of the vote in a special election on November 5th. The election followed Governor Tate Reeves’ appointment of Wes Curry to the 12th Circuit Court, creating a vacancy.
