Money swiped from SNAP cards… again!
SUMMARY: The U.S. House of Representatives has passed an act extending the time stolen SNAP benefits will be available to families until mid-December. In Oklahoma, families like Bill Nelson’s are facing issues with stolen EBT benefits, leading to unauthorized transactions that can occur hundreds of miles away. Nelson shared her experience of losing nearly $1,000 within an hour of using her card. The Department of Human Services (DHS) acknowledged that stolen benefits are a widespread issue nationally and highlighted that SNAP cards can be used across states. Recovering funds may take up to ten business days, leaving many families in distress.

Mom pleads guilty to child neglect case a year later
SUMMARY: An Oklahoma woman, Amy Murray, has been convicted of child neglect following a June 2023 incident in which her 2-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the leg with a loaded gun found in her purse. Police discovered that while the boy was jumping on the bed, the gun discharged. Murray claimed she was unaware the gun was loaded and denied responsibility, but her statements contradicted evidence presented in court. Additionally, police found fentanyl pills at the scene. A year later, she pleaded guilty to three counts of child neglect and was subsequently booked.
