Monday 5 am Tropical Update: Hurricane Milton rapidly strengthening
SUMMARY: Hurricane Milton is rapidly intensifying and poses a significant threat to Florida, potentially reaching Category 4 or even 5 strength before landfall on Wednesday evening. Wind shear may reduce its intensity to about Category 3 upon hitting land, but the storm surge could be severe, with estimates ranging from 8 to 12 feet in areas south of the storm’s center. Tropical storm and hurricane-force winds will spread over Florida on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, cooler weather is approaching, but temperatures will still be in the 80s throughout the day. Other storms, such as Kirk and Leslie, remain out at sea.

Morning Forecast – Monday, Oct. 7th
SUMMARY: The weather forecast indicates clear, dry conditions with cool air gradually settling in. Temperatures will reach the upper 80s this afternoon, but overall dry weather will dominate. Winds are calm and mostly coming from the north, while humidity is low. A frontal boundary remains to the south, which is affecting weather patterns but ensuring no tropical influences like Hurricane Milton will affect Louisiana. As dry air moves in, the fire threat increases, with moderate drought conditions reported. Temperatures are expected to drop to the mid-50s tonight and range in the lower 80s in the coming days, remaining primarily dry.
A cold front has passed over, but the cooler and drier air is lagging. Mixing will be slow throughout the afternoon. Skies will stay clear tonight as we cool down to the lower 50’s. High pressure will influence the forecast here in the short term and long term as well staying dry. Dewpoints could increase over the weekend helping to mitigate the fire threat a little bit. Another dry front will arrive late next week with another slight cool down. Regarding Hurricane Milton, it will stay in the gulf and track towards Florida as a major hurricane having no direct impacts to the ArkLaMiss.
