Mobile sports betting one step closer to becoming a reality in Mississippi
SUMMARY: Mississippi is on the cusp of legalizing mobile sports betting with the Senate Gaming Committee’s recent approval of the Mississippi Mobile Sports Wagering Act (House Bill 774), which allows those over 21 to bet on sports via mobile devices, though they must be partnered with one of the state’s casinos. This move, influenced by a study group’s findings, is expected to boost the gaming industry’s revenue and could integrate casino rewards programs with mobile betting. If passed by the legislature and signed by the governor, Mississippi would join other states with legal mobile sports betting. The Senate vote deadline is April 11.

Charter schools in Mississippi are working: Let’s give more families the opportunity
SUMMARY: As a member of the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools and the Mississippi Charter Schools Association, I’ve observed the challenges faced by Mississippi students and the transformative role of charter schools. With only 10 charter schools currently in operation, the data shows significant improvements in student outcomes, especially in reading, math, and science proficiency. Expanding charter schools can provide more personalized learning opportunities and foster healthy competition within the education system. To better serve families and address educational disparities, I urge the Mississippi Legislature to pass House Bill 1432, enabling charter schools to expand and improve access to quality education statewide.
