Mistrial declared in case of man accused of killing Ole Miss student
SUMMARY: A mistrial was declared in the capital murder case of Sheldon “Timothy” Herrington, Jr., accused of killing former Ole Miss student Jimmie “Jay” Lee. After over nine hours of deliberation, the jury was deadlocked at 11-1 on a verdict. Herrington faced multiple charges, with prosecutors alleging he murdered Lee to hide a romantic relationship. Lee, a notable member of the LGBTQ+ community, has been missing since July 2022. The defense argued insufficient evidence linked Herrington to the crime. Despite evidence suggesting suspicious behavior, the jury ultimately couldn’t agree, prompting a retrial to be scheduled by the judge.
