Mississippians to take national stage at Miss America competition
SUMMARY: Becky Williams, the current Miss Mississippi, is preparing to compete in the Miss America 2025 pageant in Orlando, Florida, after winning her title in June. In her first radio interview post-victory, Williams emphasized a shift in her preparation, focusing on the role of Miss America rather than just Miss Mississippi. She is actively engaged in mock interviews, public appearances, and community service initiatives. The competition features several events from December 31 to January 5, with preliminary rounds and finals scheduled. While Williams represents Mississippi in the Miss America category, Madison native Brooke Bumgarner competes for Miss America’s Teen.

Human remains found in Carroll County confirmed to be those of missing Ole Miss student Jimmie ‘Jay’ Lee
SUMMARY: Human remains discovered by hunters in Carroll County have been confirmed to belong to Jimmie “Jay” Lee, a former Ole Miss student missing since July 8, 2022. A necklace with Lee’s name was found at the site. Authorities arrested Sheldon “Timothy” Herrington, Jr. shortly after Lee’s disappearance, accusing him of murder linked to their alleged romantic relationship. A mistrial occurred due to a jury’s indecision, with one juror reluctant to convict without a body. With Lee’s remains now identified, a retrial is expected, potentially complicating the defense’s claims of Herrington’s innocence. Lee’s parents had previously declared him legally dead.
