Mississippians struggle to find car insurance
SUMMARY: Car theft has caught the attention of insurance agencies, particularly due to an internet trend in 2022 that made it easy to steal Hyundai and Kia vehicles. This led to an increase in car thefts, prompting insurance companies to make insuring these vehicles more difficult. In Mississippi, there’s been a notable uptick in stolen vehicles, affecting insurability and premiums. The Mississippi Insurance Department advises vehicle owners to shop locally for insurance, as different companies have varying underwriting guidelines. Car insurance is essential for driving on public roadways, and not having it can lead to significant financial risk. Local municipalities are also using traffic light cameras to check for insurance compliance.
