Mississippian featured on Netflix’s ‘Is It Cake, Too?’ competition
SUMMARY: Mississippi resident Corterrius Allen, also known as “DaCakeGoat,” competed on Netflix’s Is It Cake, Too? show, where contestants have to make cakes that look like everyday objects. Allen developed a love for baking while working at a bake shop and began selling cupcakes out of his dorm room. He honed his baking and decorating skills, creating his first realistic cake modeled after a stack of pancakes. Allen joined nine other contestants on Is It Cake, Too? and had to make hyper-realistic cakes to fool the judges. Despite the competition, he and the other contestants were supportive of each other. Allen plans to continue pursuing his passion by opening his own baking company.

Giant ‘sea dragon’ fossil discovered in Mississippi, believed to be largest in state history
SUMMARY: A team from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality discovered a mosasaur vertebra in Oktibbeha County on April 15, 2025, representing one of the largest sea dragons of the late Cretaceous period. The fossil, found in the Prairie Bluff Formation, likely belonged to Mosasaurus hoffmanni, a massive marine predator that could grow up to 50 feet long and weigh 20,000 pounds. Known for its dagger-like teeth, this apex predator dominated the seas while dinosaurs ruled the land. This find marks the largest mosasaur fossil recorded in Mississippi and is now part of the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science’s collection.
