Mississippi woman adopting 6 kids gets big surprise from Jennifer Hudson
SUMMARY: A woman from Hernando, Mississippi, who adopted her niece and five nephews received a surprise from Jennifer Hudson on her show. Through a GoFundMe page, Amanda Perry raised money for a private adoption, and Hudson contacted her, leading to a surprise visit with gifts and prizes from the show. Perry took in the children after her half-sister was unable to care for them due to mental illness and addiction. The surprise gifts included toys for the kids and two free trips, and Perry hopes to finalize the adoptions after the first of the year.

Closing arguments begin in Carly Gregg trial
SUMMARY: Closing arguments began on September 20 in the trial of Carly Gregg, a Rankin County teen accused of killing her mother, Ashley Smylie, in March 2024. Prosecutors presented expert witnesses highlighting inconsistencies in her statements, particularly regarding hallucinations prior to the shooting. The defense rested its case earlier, and Gregg faces serious charges, including first-degree murder and attempted murder, with a possible life sentence if convicted. The court denied her motion to transfer the case to Youth Court due to her admission of marijuana use prior to the incident. Gregg, held on a $1 million bond, pled not guilty.
