Mississippi wildlife commission unanimously passes resolution honoring former chairman
SUMMARY: Bill Cossar, a former Mississippi Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks commissioner, has been honored for his extensive service in conserving the state's natural resources. The commission unanimously passed a resolution in mid-June recognizing his lifelong dedication to public service and outdoor stewardship. Cossar, from Charleston, has been active in community service and various outdoor activities. After graduating from Ole Miss, he had a successful career with Mississippi Power and Light, becoming its vice president. Appointed to the commission by Governor Phil Bryant in 2014 and reappointed in 2019, Cossar served for 10 years, including two years as chairman.

SUMMARY: Mississippi artists aged 21 and older have the chance to win $2,000 and be spotlighted at the state's largest art festival through the Blue Moon Art Project contest. Participants are required to submit a contemporary, museum-quality canvas (24″ x 36″) without beer bottles or text, inspired by the Blue Moon beer brand. Applications can be downloaded from the Peter Anderson Festival website and must be submitted with the artwork by October 4 at the Ocean Springs Chamber Main Street offices. The Peter Anderson Arts & Crafts Festival will occur in downtown Ocean Springs on November 2-3.

The state won in the “fewer than 3 million population” category due to innovative policies that create jobs and attract businesses. Governor Tate Reeves celebrated the recognition, acknowledging the hard work of many. Notable projects include Hush Aerospace's drone manufacturing in Tupelo, Skydweller Aero's solar-powered aircraft testing in Hancock County, Raytheon's radar program facility in Forest, PACCAR's $210M expansion in Columbus, and APEX Ammunition's growth in the Golden Triangle, among others.

SUMMARY: A manhunt in Harrison County concluded with the arrest of Bricen John Rivers, charged with one count of murder. Deputies responded to Wolf River Cemetery, where they found Rivers running into the woods. A deceased woman, 22-year-old Lauren Johansen of Gulfport, was found in the vehicle Rivers fled from. Johansen, reported missing July 2, attended school in Hattiesburg. Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in the search, ultimately locating Rivers and arresting him. He is held at Harrison County Adult Detention Facility on a $1 million bond.
