Mississippi University for Women pauses name change again
SUMMARY: Mississippi University for Women in Columbus is taking a “strategic pause” as they work towards a name change. The university made a proposal to shed its gender-specific name and become Wynbridge State University of Mississippi. The new name was submitted by alumni and faculty. University leaders are determined to remain “The W” and say the name complicates the recruiting process because the university has enrolled men since 1982. This is the second time this year that MUW leaders have discussed renaming the University. President Nora R. Miller expressed her gratitude to all who supported the efforts, including the Naming Task Force, IHL Board, legislative delegation, donors, alumni, and friends of The W.
