Mississippi teen accused of killing her mother indicted on three counts

SUMMARY: A 14-year-old girl, Carly Gregg, from Rankin County, Mississippi, has been indicted by a grand jury on charges first-degree murder, attempted murder, and tampering with evidence. The indictment stems from a shooting incident on March 19, 2024, where Gregg allegedly killed her mother, 40-year-old Ashley Smylie, and her step-father. Authorities apprehended Gregg shortly after the incident. Gregg pleaded not guilty, and her bond was set at $1 million. She is being held at the Rankin County Adult Detention Center, with the trial set for September 2024. Smylie was a teacher, and Gregg a student, at Northwest Rankin High School.
