Mississippi tax preparers sentenced for filing false tax returns

SUMMARY: A group of tax return preparers in Mississippi were to prison for conspiring to file false tax returns for clients in . Adam Earnest received 100 months, James Klish 50 months, and John Wells 15 months in prison. They were also ordered to serve three years of supervised release and pay restitution. Two other conspirators will be sentenced later. Prosecutors convicted Earnest, Klish, and Christopher Rendell of preparing false tax returns at Sunbelt Tax Service. They claimed inflated tax refunds by false information on clients’ returns, resulting in over $3.5 million in tax loss to the IRS. The IRS Criminal Investigation conducted the case.

Vicksburg man sentenced for robbing Rankin County Dollar General

SUMMARY: De’Anthony RaShad Smith, a 27-year-old man from Vicksburg, was convicted of armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in Rankin County, Mississippi. Smith, who previously a conviction for aggravated robbery in , pleaded guilty after robbing a Dollar General store on September 8, 2023. He was to 45 years for armed robbery, five years for conspiracy, and ten years for firearm possession. Surveillance footage captured the robbery, and apprehended him shortly after with the stolen money and weapon.

Dollar General vehicle theft leads to two arrests in Tupelo
