Mississippi Task Force returns home after Hurricane Helene
SUMMARY: A team of First Responders from South Mississippi has returned home after a four-day search and rescue mission in Florida following Hurricane Helen. Comprised of firefighters from the coast to Hattiesburg, the Mississippi Search and Rescue Task Force 3 deployed before the storm made landfall. They traveled over 2,000 miles, focusing on clearing roads blocked by fallen trees and assessing homes for trapped victims. Most of their efforts were concentrated in Madison County, where significant tree damage was reported, though flooding was not a major concern. While the weekend won’t be a washout, scattered showers are possible. Currently, it’s a beautiful evening at 79ยฐF, with rising moisture levels. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms possible Thursday evening into Friday
SUMMARY: Chief Meteorologist Eric Jaon reports a dry spell in South Mississippi, typical for October, the driest month of the year. Despite recent dryness, there’s a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms in the coming days, particularly Thursday evening into Friday morning, due to tropical moisture from the Gulf. The highest rainfall is likely near the coast. While Hurricane Kirk is strengthening, the National Hurricane Center has reduced the chances of significant Gulf activity. A frontal system next week may bring cooler temperatures and further inhibit tropical development. The weekend looks generally dry, with a slim chance of isolated showers.
