In this episode of Mississippi Stories, Mississippi Today Editor-At-Large Marshall Ramsey sits down with Natchez Mayor Dan Gibson. Mayor Gibson is coming up on his first year in office. In that time, he has faced a pandemic, hurricanes and a severe winter storm. But he also has had several successes. But being a mayor is nothing new to Gibson. Previously the mayor of Crystal Springs, Gibson moved to Natchez five years ago. He’s a lobbyist, a piano player, a Natchez Bed and Breakfast owner and now mayor. He defeated independent challenger Phillip West for the Mayor’s office by running on a platform of bringing jobs and economic opportunities to Natchez. In this interview, Gibson talks about some of those economic opportunities that have come to past.

Family of Dexter Wade rallies outside JPD nearly two years after his death

Man shot while helping with stalled vehicle in Jackson

SUMMARY: A man was shot in Jackson, Mississippi, while attempting to assist a person with a stalled vehicle on State Street at Beasley Road around 4:00 p.m. on November 20. Detective Tommie Brown reported that the victim was working on the vehicle when the suspect approached, questioned him, and then opened fire. The assailant fled the scene in a vehicle. Fortunately, the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The Jackson Police Department is seeking information about the incident and encourages anyone with details to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
