Mississippi State, Ole Miss open men’s basketball season with blowout wins

SUMMARY: Mississippi State and No. 24 Ole Miss celebrated successful opening nights for the 2024-25 season. Mississippi State dominated West Georgia 95-60, led by Josh Hubbard’s 26 points and Claudell Harris, Jr.’s 20. The Bulldogs shot 55% from the field and excelled in the paint, despite being slightly outrebounded. They next face Georgia State. Ole Miss defeated Long Island 90-60, with Jaylen Murray scoring 24 points. The Rebels also had strong contributions from new transfers and outperformed the Sharks in rebounding and bench scoring. They will play Grambling State next. Both games will air on the SEC Network.

2 arrested, including UMMC officer, after fatal shooting in Jackson

The McLeod brothers face charges of first-degree murder and aggravated assault. Michael McLeod, who was terminated from the University of Mississippi Medical Center Police, was not on duty during the incident. The investigation is ongoing.

Former Bush cabinet member from Mississippi passes away

Gov. Reeves signs bill phasing out Mississippi’s income tax into law
