Mississippi power cooperatives continue work on power lines after hurricane
SUMMARY: After Hurricane Helen struck Florida, approximately 60,000 customers remain without power five days later. The outages are concentrated in the Big Bend area, extending to the Georgia state line. At one point, over a million Floridians lost electricity due to the hurricane’s destructive impact, which included severe flooding and infrastructure damage. Power cooperatives from Northeast Mississippi, including Tom Bigby Electric and Alcorn County Electric, are actively working to restore power. Crews are putting in long hours to assist hurricane victims, with efforts expected to continue for about five more days to help residents regain essential services.
