Mississippi State basketball makes history with win over No. 8 Auburn

Supreme Court leaves in place Mississippi’s voting bar for people convicted of some crimes

The Court rejected an appeal from residents who had completed their sentences but could not regain their voting rights. The ruling supported the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which stated the decision to restore voting rights lies with state legislators, not the courts. Critics argue the law is a remnant of segregation, disproportionately affecting Black residents. Restoring voting rights requires a governor’s pardon or legislative approval, but it is rarely granted.
