SUMMARY: Michael Watson, Mississippi’s Secretary of State, has made a policy change to ease the regulatory burden on investment representatives in the state. By implementing the Exam Validity Extension Program (EVEP), Mississippi becomes an early adopter of a scheme allowing broker-dealer agents and investment advisor representatives to extend state qualification exams for up to five years, provided they meet continuing education requirements. This flexibility aids professionals who may need to pause their career for various reasons, ensuring they remain updated on industry practices. EVEP is part of a collaboration between the North American Securities Administrators Association and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. The new rules are detailed in the Mississippi Securities Act Rules and the Mississippi Administrative Bulletin.
