Mississippi receives more than 3,300 absentee ballots ahead of 2024 primary

SUMMARY: As of , almost 6,000 absentee ballots have been requested in Mississippi for the 2024 presidential primary election. Over 5,000 have been sent out and over 3,000 have been received. The ballots will include offices of President, U.S. Senate, and U.S. Representative. All in-person absentee is due by Saturday, March 9th. Mail-in absentee ballots must be postmarked by Election Day on March 12th and received by then.

SUMMARY: The trial of Troy Johnson, accused of shooting Lamar County Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Pazos in December 2022, continued with its second day of testimony. Deputy Pazos was shot once in the side but survived. The prosecution has presented its witnesses, and the trial is set to resume tomorrow morning at the Lamar County Courthouse, with uncertainty about whether the defense will present its case.
