Mississippi receives more than 20,000 absentee ballots ahead of primary
SUMMARY: As of July 31, 2023, over 20,000 absentee ballots have been received in Mississippi for the upcoming primary election. The Statewide Election Management System reported a total of 26,946 absentee ballots requested, 26,314 absentee ballots sent, and 20,476 absentee ballots received in the state. Mississippians who have requested an absentee ballot can track their ballot using the My Election Day ballot tracker. All mail-in absentee ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and received within five business days to be counted. The Resolution Board can start processing absentee ballots at 7 a.m. on Election Day, and county election officials can tabulate ballots at 7 p.m. on Election Day. Suspect in the killing of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO struggles, shouts while entering courthouse
SUMMARY: Luigi Nicholas Mangione, a 26-year-old Ivy League graduate, was arrested in Pennsylvania and charged with the murder of Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare. Mangione, who expressed disdain for corporate greed and the health insurance industry, was found with a gun matching the murder weapon and fraudulent IDs. He initially gave false identification but was recognized at a McDonald’s. Mangione, who wrote a three-page document expressing anti-corporate sentiments, is being extradited to New York. His family, shocked by his arrest, expressed condolences to Thompson’s family. Mangione had no prior criminal complaints but had a history of severe back pain.
