Mississippi receives $1.2 billion for high-speed internet service
SUMMARY: Mississippi will receive $1.2 billion from the Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to improve high-speed internet access. Currently, over 268,000 homes and small businesses in Mississippi lack access to a high-speed internet connection. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo highlighted the importance of affordable and reliable internet access in today’s economy, and the investment aims to close the digital divide in Mississippi. The funds come from the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program, which prioritizes unserved and underserved locations in terms of internet access. The program will be administered by Mississippi’s Broadband Expansion and Accessibility office.
