Mississippi pair convicted of COVID-19 fraud as part of large scheme
SUMMARY: A Columbus man, Ramirez Ivy, and Clarksdale woman, Felicia Smith, were convicted for fraudulently obtaining Economic Injury Disaster Loans from the SBA related to the COVID-19 pandemic. They conspired to submit false loan applications claiming non-existent business revenues, each securing $200,000. During a trial, they were found guilty of wire fraud conspiracy and aiding/abetting wire fraud. Additionally, Lekeith Faulkner and Norman Beckwood, who previously pleaded guilty, received 62-month prison sentences and were ordered to pay over $10.6 million in restitution. The investigation revealed 30 other individuals involved in the same fraudulent scheme.
