Mississippi organization receives grant for health equity
SUMMARY: A community organization based in Mississippi called Southern Echo has been selected to receive a $6 million grant from biotech company Genentech. This grant is part of Genentech’s Community Health Justice Fund, which supports organizations working to advance health equity. Southern Echo will use the grant to focus on health organizing and improving health conditions in southern states. They will develop a curriculum to address health issues and present them to policymakers. Rachel Mayes, the executive director of Southern Echo, emphasized the importance of understanding the policies and legislation that affect daily lives in relation to health. Southern Echo aims to provide support to communities through in-person conversations and engagement.
