SUMMARY: Feral hogs cause over $66 million in annual property damage in Mississippi, particularly impacting the state’s agriculture sector. To combat this issue, the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce has launched a wild hog control program that includes the availability of “smart wild hog traps.” These technologically advanced traps feature battery and solar-powered cameras for monitoring and trapping the hogs. Property owners can apply for these traps now and will receive setup training and technical support. Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gibson highlights the urgent need for this program, citing the aggressive and invasive nature of wild hogs as a significant threat to local farmers.
