Mississippi native and Basketball Hall of Famer Chet Walker dies at 84
SUMMARY: Chet Walker, a seven-time NBA All-Star known as “Chet the Jet,” has passed away at 84. Born in Bethlehem, Mississippi, Walker shone in high school basketball in Benton Harbor, Michigan, and later at Bradley University, where he led the team to a National Invitation Tournament championship in 1957. Drafted by the Syracuse Nationals (later Philadelphia 76ers) in 1962, he earned multiple All-Star nods and helped the 76ers win the 1967 NBA Finals. In 1969, he joined the Chicago Bulls, consistently scoring high before retiring in 1975. Post-NBA, Walker became a TV movie producer and author, and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012.

McClellan leaving MVSU athletics with positive momentum

Significant heat stress conditions persist in southern Mississippi and northeastern Louisiana, with heat indexes around 110-115. Slightly drier air will moderate northern areas' heat.
