Mississippi Museum of Art: Kids Camp Creations
SUMMARY: Last week, we introduced the kids' camp at the Museum of Art. Today, we highlight some talented young artists. Marlo, who's nine, created an artwork featuring a school and a candle. Oliver is making a gummy bear atop a cake and plans to create a vase for his mom. Chloe initially wanted to make a person but changed to a giant lipstick. Lastly, Gilbert made a unique toilet sculpture inspired by middle school humor. All the kids express their love for art and encourage others to join the camp for a fun and creative experience.

Remnants of Beryl expected to pass west, north of Pine Belt

Columbia had almost 2 inches of rain, with evening temperatures at 73°F. La Ford reports 77°F, feeling like 807°F. Today's high was 94°F, above the average of 91°F, but below the 102°F record. Morning low was 77°F, with a historical low of 62°F. Tonight's scattered thunderstorms are dissipating across various regions. Tropical Storm Barrel, a 60 mph windstorm, is expected to intensify in the Western Gulf of Mexico, possibly becoming a Category 1 hurricane. Expect patchy fog and oppressive humidity overnight.

Hattiesburg man arrested in connection to Smith County bomb threat
SUMMARY: A Hattiesburg man, Tobias Smith, 27, is in custody for a bomb threat sent via text to a Smith County business, leading to the evacuation of employees at Georgia Pacific Plywood near Taylorville. The Highway Patrol used bomb dogs to search the site before employees could return. Smith faces one count of terrorist threats and is currently held at Smith County Jail, awaiting his bond hearing.

Fire contained quickly in Lamar County Friday
SUMMARY: A house fire occurred near Baxterville in Lamar County amidst thunderstorms in the Pine Belt area. Officials do not suspect foul play and believe a lightning strike may have caused the fire. This assumption is based on homeowner reports and continuous lightning strikes during firefighting efforts. Firefighters managed to quickly contain the blaze, resulting in minimal visible damage to the exterior of the home. No injuries were reported.
