Mississippi man accused of killing Texas police officer captured on horseback
SUMMARY: Darrian Cortez Johnson, 25, has been arrested for the capital murder of Terrell police officer Jacob Candanoza in Mississippi. The shooting occurred during a traffic stop when Johnson allegedly opened fire in a motel parking lot, leading Candanoza to call for backup. Before assistance arrived, multiple 911 calls reported an officer shot. Despite medical efforts, Candanoza died at a hospital. Johnson fled the scene, prompting a manhunt that ended with his capture near a coffee shop. He is currently held at Kaufman County Jail without bond. Tributes have been made for the fallen officer, who joined the force in July.
