Mississippi Lottery makes November 2023 transfer to state
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Lottery Corporation completed its November transfer of net proceeds to the state treasury, transferring $8,958,297.15 to the Lottery Proceeds Fund, bringing the FY24 total to $55,579,570.17. The lottery has generated more revenue at this point in FY24 than last year. The MLC transferred $12,849,707.47 to the state treasury in November 2022, nearly $4 million less than last November’s transfer. The first $80 million of proceeds goes to Mississippi Department of Transportation projects, and proceeds exceeding $80 million are earmarked for the Education Enhancement Fund. All numbers are contingent on an annual financial audit.

Girlfriend of man convicted killing two near Hal’s St. Paddy’s Parade pleads guilty
SUMMARY: Jenny Lukens, the girlfriend of Jordan Cummins, who was convicted of killing two people during the Hal’s St. Paddy’s Parade in March 2023, pleaded guilty to hindering prosecution. She was sentenced on September 16, 2024, to 10 years, with six years suspended and four served under house arrest. Lukens admitted to misleading police to help Cummins, who received a life sentence for two counts of first-degree murder on June 24, 2024. During the trial, she testified that she was not physically assaulted by Cummins, despite inconsistencies in her story.
