Mississippi leaders react to affirmative action decision
SUMMARY: The U.S. Supreme Court has struck down affirmative action in college admissions, ending more than 40 years of race-conscious admissions processes. The ruling stated that the admissions processes at the University of North Carolina and Harvard “unavoidably employ race in a negative manner.” While some legal experts believe the ruling will have little impact on Mississippi’s colleges, the state’s Institutions of Higher Learning will review their admission policies to ensure compliance with federal law. Governor Tate Reeves celebrated the ruling, saying that it will make academic institutions stronger and fairer. Some states may consider implementing a Texas-style law that benefits applicants of color with excellent academic records.

Trump says he will issue an executive order Monday to get TikTok back up
SUMMARY: President-elect Donald Trump announced that he will issue an executive order on Monday to extend the deadline for TikTok’s China-based parent company, ByteDance, to find an approved U.S. buyer. This decision follows the removal of TikTok from app stores due to a federal law requiring ByteDance to sell its U.S. operations or face a ban, citing national security concerns. Trump’s order would delay the law’s restrictions, offering ByteDance more time to negotiate a sale. Despite challenges, including TikTok’s legal disputes, Trump emphasized the app’s potential value and the importance of keeping it operational in the U.S.
