Mississippi Highway Patrol reports 2 fatal crashes from Thanksgiving enforcement period

SUMMARY: The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) has finished its Thanksgiving enforcement period, recording two fatal crashes and issuing over 6,600 citations during the six-day initiative. The increased patrol lasted from the Tuesday before Thanksgiving to Sunday at midnight, responding to record travel numbers. The totals included 6,662 citations, 187 crashes, 48 injuries, and 116 motorist assists. The two fatal incidents, both involving pedestrians, occurred in Leake and Marshall counties. In Leake County, a pedestrian was struck by a car on November 27, while another accident occurred in Marshall County on December 1. Both crashes remain under investigation.
