Mississippi Highway Patrol launches Memorial Day travel enforcement period
SUMMARY:
The Mississippi Highway Patrol has initiated its 2024 Memorial Day holiday travel enforcement period, which began at 6:00 a.m. and will end at midnight Monday. Troopers will conduct high-visibility patrols to ensure safe travel and discourage unsafe driving. Motorists needing assistance can dial HP (47) from mobile devices. The enforcement coincides with the "Click-it or Ticket" safety campaign stressing occupant restraint laws. In 2023, MHP investigated 156 crashes, three fatalities, made 170 DUI arrests, and issued 961 restraint violation citations. DPS Commissioner Sean Tindell urged the public to remember the sacrifices of fallen soldiers and appreciate law enforcement efforts.
