Mississippi guardsman still recovering from heat stroke

SUMMARY: 18-year-old Colby-Maury Rice, a National Guardsman from Hattiesburg, suffered a severe heat stroke during drills at Camp Shelby and was in a coma for 57 days. His father, Eddie Dockery, says his son has made progress but still has a long way to go. Rice is currently in a hospital in New Orleans with neurological issues and partial blindness. The family wants to continue his rehabilitation at home instead of sending him to Tampa, Florida for treatment. Dockery blames the National Guard for the heat stroke and says very little has been done to cover Rice’s medical expenses. The National Guard says safety is paramount to their success and they will work to mitigate any risks, including the weather.
