Mississippi governor announces Medicaid reimbursement reforms
SUMMARY: Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves has announced a series of Medicaid reimbursement reforms estimated to generate around $700 million for hospitals across the state. The reforms include the Mississippi Hospital Access Program (MHAP), which will provide direct payments to hospitals serving Medicaid patients, and supplemental Medicaid base payment rates for hospitals. The non-federal share of the payments will be financed through hospital assessments. Reeves also called for prior authorization reform and announced a working group on health issues to discuss further reforms. Mississippi is facing a healthcare crisis with a shortage of OB-GYNs and a high infant mortality rate.
