Mississippi Freedom Marker honors Lawrence Guyot in hometown of Pass Christian
SUMMARY: A new marker has been unveiled on the Mississippi Freedom Trail in honour of Civil Rights activist Lawrence Guyot. The marker has been placed at an old playground in Pass Christian, Mississippi, which was frequented by Guyot during his youth. It honours his efforts towards changing voting rights not just in Mississippi but also across America, thus pushing for representations in a more inclusive and equal Democratic party. City leaders believe the marker greatly adds to the legacy of the Guyot family and represents an important part of the Civil Rights Movement.

A Carriere, Miss. native, she earned her master’s degree in communications from USM in 2006 and began her career at NASA as an intern. In 2024, she received the prestigious Silver Snoopy Award for her contributions to NASA Stennis.
