Mississippi farms pay overdue wages for favoring immigrants over local Black workers, agency says

SUMMARY: The U.S. Labor Department has found that 44 farms in Mississippi exploited Black workers by paying higher wages to immigrants on temporary work visas. The farms, which include catfish growers and crop operations, have paid over $500,000 in back wages and over $340,000 in civil penalties. The investigations revealed that the farms violated several requirements of the H-2A visa program, such as failing to pay required wages to US workers and not disclosing all employment conditions. This follows lawsuits filed by local Black farmworkers last year against agriculture businesses that hired white laborers from South Africa and paid them more.

All aboard Delta flight survive after plane flips while landing in Toronto
